Why Decentralize Sanitation?

Wastewater is generated everywhere — but centralized sanitation infrastructure is not always practical or economical for every location.

Aventiq is developing decentralized treatment systems that bring treatment closer to where wastewater is generated, enabling local water recovery and responsible solids management.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Centralized sewerage can require extensive networks, pumping infrastructure and long-distance conveyance.

WATER

Treated wastewater can become a local resource when appropriately treated for defined non-potable applications.

SOLIDS

Effective sanitation requires responsible management of the solids generated during treatment — not simply treatment of the liquid stream.

Two streams. One closed loop.

CIRCULAR WATER
Source homes · communities
Treat modular system
Recover water + solids
Reuse non-potable

Liquid and solids, both recovered

  • Liquid: treatment → polishing → defined non-potable reuse
  • Solids: separation → controlled drying / thermal processing → resource recovery
  • No dependence on biological microbes as the core mechanism, and membrane-free
  • Designed to reduce intensive power and routine consumables

Three Platforms. One Decentralized Sanitation Vision.

  • Designed for: Remote communities • Rural locations • Off-grid and resource-constrained environments
  • Focus: Water recovery • Solar-assisted operation • Advanced solids resource recovery

Shared technologies. Different system architectures.

HySan platforms are designed around configurable, modular wastewater treatment and solids management. SAPP is being developed around the integrated use of solar-assisted pyrolysis and electrochemical polishing. Thermal processing, including pyrolysis, may also be evaluated within HySan Circular where feedstock, operating conditions and system economics justify it.

OUR APPROACH

Engineered Integration. Adaptive Treatment. Real-World Resilience.

Aventiq develops modular sanitation architectures by engineering the integration of multiple treatment processes into coordinated systems. Our approach focuses on process configuration, system-level optimization and adaptation to changing wastewater characteristics and shock loads. Through iterative engineering, controlled testing and real-world validation, we aim to deliver robust, maintainable systems designed for consistent performance across varying operating conditions.

Answers to Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Understand Aventiq's decentralized technology portfolio, processes, and deployment models.

Decentralized sanitation treats and manages wastewater closer to where it is generated rather than relying entirely on centralized sewerage and treatment infrastructure. It can provide a practical option for residential, community, institutional and off-grid applications where centralized infrastructure may be difficult or uneconomical to extend.

Aventiq is developing a modular sanitation portfolio comprising HySan-HTS for household applications, HySan Circular for community and institutional applications, and SAPP for advanced off-grid and resource-constrained environments.
